2 DAYS DESERT TOUR FROM FES TO MERZOUGA ITINERARY

The first day of the 2-day desert tour from Fes to Merzouga begins with our departure from Fes in the morning as we head toward Ifrane. After a cup of coffee here, we will drive to Azrou to visit the cedar forest. You can walk among the trees to watch the Barbary macaques moving freely through the branches.

We continue traveling over the Middle Atlas Mountains to Midelt for lunch. This town sits between the Middle and High Atlas Mountains and is also called the apple capital of Morocco.
After lunch, the route continues through the Tizi-n-Talghemt pass and along the Ziz Valley (an oasis full of palm trees and small mud villages). You will have many stops along the way.

Reach Merzouga in the afternoon at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Your camels and guide will be waiting for you to take you across the sandy desert. A stop will be made for you to enjoy a magical Sunset on top of a high dune, then continue to the luxury desert camp.
After a tasty dinner, you will have a sit around a campfire while enjoying the local Berber music under the vast open sky of stars.

Today, we recommend waking up early to enjoy the beautiful sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast, we will depart from the camp in a 4×4 car and drive back to Merzouga village. From here, we will begin our journey back to Fes via Rissani.

This town is the ancient capital of Tafilalet and still a major trading center in the region, with a lively market on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. After a short walk in Rissani, we will continue to Erfoud, a town known for its fossils and date production. You will see how fossils are handled and have a moment to stretch your legs.

As we drive north, we will pass through the Ziz Valley, a long stretch of palm trees and small Berber villages along the river. Then we continue to the cedar forests and Ifrane to reach Fes. Finally, we drop you off at your accommodation. End of the Fes desert tours 2 days.

The camel ride is around 45 minutes to 1.5 hours long, depending on which camp you are staying in.

If you prefer not to ride a camel, a 4×4 vehicle is available to transfer you and your luggage to and from the camp.

During the camel ride, you will only take what’s necessary for the ride.
The rest of your luggage will be transported by the camp’s 4×4 and will be waiting for you upon arrival.

The vehicle will be either an SUV 4×4 or a Minivan, both with A/C.
